How to Not Procrastinate
Day 9 of 31
Here’s a list of ways to avoid procrastination, brought to you by someone who is procrastinating right now!
Remember when I said I started packing for Chicago early? Yeah, I still waited until the last minute to get everything into my suitcase. I’m still not quite done with my tasks. I did a lot this morning, then decided to take a break when I came back home. BIG MISTAKE. This little break turned into a full-on hiatus from adulting.
Me too Chuckie. Me too.
Here’s how to stay focused.
Don’t take breaks: If you have time-sensitive tasks to finish, don’t you dare take a break. Breaks are best used for non-time-sensitive duties. Just keep busting out those tasks one after the other, especially if they don’t take too much effort. It’s easy to put off seemingly “little” things until a later date or time, but before you know it you’ll be scrambling to get all your shit together.
For example, if you scratch your arm (breakdown) it may bleed and then scab no rx levitra (buildup). Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty is safe and buy women viagra effective by FDA, and can be taken with no prior prescriptions, but recently the medication should be taken under medical instructions for better and faster results. They cialis cost 20mg often distorts true glucose levels. Also, choosing the best cure for treatment generic levitra uk assures long lasting result rather than temporary result. Listen to chill music: Not party music, not songs with invigorating lyrics, not music that will distract you. I like to listen to indie, folky, I-was-probably-high-when-I-wrote-this-song, kind of music when I am working. These songs are mostly instrumental with breathy, inaudible vocals and run for 6-8 minutes. Make a little hour-long Youtube playlist of your favorite chill tunes and get to work. The music will keep you in the zone.
Silence your devices: Text messages are not important when you are on a deadline. Mute all of your social media and messaging apps for at least an hour and see how much work you get done.
Make lists: This is the ultimate way to stay on track. Write a list of actionable items along with the time deadlines you aim to get them done. Don’t put vague tasks like, “Check email.” You’ll either never get to it or you’ll treat it like a insignificant task. Instead, make it more specific: “Reply to Stephanie’s email regarding tomorrow’s meeting.” You will be more inclined to get to the task because it’s detailed and personal.
Create a work time window: Never make your whole day the work day. When you treat your time as an open space, it’s easy to dilly dally and “get to it later.” Just as you would a regular 9-5, limit your work hours to a specific time window. Think: I will start A at 8am and finish Z by 3pm. This way, you’ll be looking forward to free time and not cheat yourself out of productivity during work time.
Ok, now I’m really inspired to get back to work and be a big girl. Check back tomorrow! I’ll be in Chicago so the post may or may not be a little late or a little short.
