Another Bae Bites the Dust: Brody Jenner is Anti-BLM

With all of the social issues going on concerning race, gender, and politics, it’s getting harder and harder to actually like anyone. Even friends can shock you with ignorance and hateful views. You’re cool and funny, but…your latest Facebook post seems pretty (very) racist. Besides the disturbing revelations about  folks I actually know, I’m also feeling disappointed with some of my faves. Brody Jenner used to be bae.

Over the weekend, Jenner hopped onto Instagram to declare #AllLivesMatter (aka #STFUAboutBlackLivesBecauseAnythingThatChallengesWhitePrivilegeBothersMe). It all started when his friend, Taylor Mosher, made a post whitesplaining racism. According to Mosher, racism doesn’t exist. He questions why “everything these days is about race?” (LOL at “these days.” As if racially driven police brutality is something new.) Shame on social media for shaking up white fragility! How dare this horrible news make it’s way to your pretty doorstep. It was so much easier not hearing about everyday racism, everyday.  Disregard the countless victims of police brutality, who happen to be black. Disregard the ugly history of racism in America. Disregard all truths.

In response to the two recent murders (that we know about) of Terence Crutcher and Keith Lamont Scott, Mosher had this to say:

“I normally don’t speak about this type of stuff, but this is just ridiculous. I can’t even watch the news anymore without getting pissed off. This has nothing to do with race. White, black, brown, any color…if you have an officer of the law telling you to exit your vehicle (or do anything for that matter)…you comply. And not only do you comply, but you do so willingly and follow directions completely. And why in the world would you exit that vehicle with a weapon in hand (allegedly?!) That makes no sense! And if, let’s just say, you DON’T have a gun, why would you not put your hands up in the air and state “I do not have a gun” so that the officers can clearly see that you don’t??

 

If I, as a white male, did those things, I’d expect that I’d be putting myself in danger of being shot because I’d be making myself a perceived threat. This world is getting out of hand with the race issue. Maybe I say that because I’m not racist. I see humans as equals. You shoot me, or you shoot an African American, we are both humans with the same beating heart. Why is everything these days about race? Why?”

Of course, everyone was upset and called both dude-bros out. But things took a turn for the worst when Jenner posted photos of his dogs with the caption #AllLivesMatter.

Black lives are under attack, but no let’s think of the puppies! No matter how far we say we’ve come, America is still anti-black. I know this because the news can show videos of little black girls getting attacked by grown men then cut to the weather forecast. I know this because black men get murdered for complying. I know this because several racist killers will never see a jail cell. I know this because celebrities speak out against kneeling to a song, but stay silent and “non-political” on the murders of black people. I know this because we can all safely and comfortably stand up for LGBT rights, women’s rights, but never black rights. Wherever white people can not identify, the space will be taboo and divided.

Jenner’s mommy came through with the cape to protect her son from internet comments. According to her, Brody is the “LEAST prejudicial” person ever.  It kind of sounds like when Trump declared himself to be the “least racist” person ever.

So farewell Brody. I unfollowed and blocked you on everything. It goes to show, you can’t always trust a big beard and a smile.
